Allons enfants de la Patrie / Le jour de gloire est arrive!
Bastille Day, the French national holiday is celebrated on July 14, and, to commemorate the occasion and to honor our French-born and -trained chef, Laurent Olivier, Still River Café will feature a number of French appetizers and entrees in addition to our normal a la carte menu selections along with a variety of French wines. The additions to the menu include a chilled vichyssoise soup, Parisian gnocchi with garlic scape pesto, wild Burgundy escargot, coq au vin and steak frites. White and red wines from Bordeaux and Burgundy, Muscadet, Vouvray, Pouilly Fumé, Chateauneuf-du-Pape will be offered as well as Rosé from the Loire and southern France.Selected wines will be sold by the glass ($8.00) or carafe ($15.00). Champagne and sparkling wine will, bien sur, also be available.
July is a wonderful time to visit Still River Café in any event. Our gardens our in full bloom providing us with a stunning array of fresh, organic salad greens, garlic scapes, radishes, carrots, beets, peas, turnips, kohlrabi, radicchio, chard, strawberries and blueberries. Still River Café was recently one of two restaurants highlighted in the introduction to the 2007 / 08 Zagat Guide to restaurants in Connecticut, Westchester County and the Berkshires in a section entitled "What's New" which noted that "Quiet Windham County is actually buzzing because foodies are making a beeline to a beautifully renovated 150-year-old barn in Eastford to dine at Still River Café, where a couple of ex-corporate lawyers grow most of the ingredients used in their acclaimed cuisine." For other reviews and additional information including menus and our wine list, please visit our website: www.stillrivercafe.com.
In other news, we just hosted our first wedding reception, and we have thus come full circle as a place to celebrate life's important events. A few weekends ago, a young couple came to celebrate their first wedding anniversary only to have a group at the next table, whom they had never met, pick up the tab for their entire meal. We are staunch advocates of the proposition that nothing brings out the best in people quite like a wonderful dining experience, and we believe that any time people sit down with family and friends to enjoy a meal is a special occasion.
Still River Café is conveniently located just 6 miles exit 73 on I-84 (from the West) or exit 74 (from the East) and is just a 30-minute drive from Worcester, 45-minutes from Hartford or Providence and just over an hour from Boston. We are open on Friday and Saturday for dinner (each Friday in July we are offering a 3-course prix fixe special of selected a la carte items for $35.00 a person) and Sunday for brunch / lunch.
So whether you are a regular guest, someone who has been planning to visit Still River Café but just hasn't gotten around to it, or simply a Francophile, please join us on Bastille Day weekend for a special evening of French food, music and Liberté, Egalité and Fraternité. If you cannot make that weekend, we look forward to seeing you anytime you want to make a dining experience a special occasion.
